Slaying Isidore's Dragons Book Tour! A Glorious 5★ Review by Petra over at GGR & Friends Reviews!

I'm over at GGR-Review.com today with an incredible 5★ review by Petra! Check it out!

“...this is by no means a ‘soppy’ story and the happy ever after that Isidore and Declan are looking for is hard-fought. With assassins, kidnappings, international spies and more, Mr. Kennedy has written a story reminiscent of a young Bourne Identity or James Bond... as a matter of fact, I think that Ian Fleming himself would be jealous of this.”

Wow! What a high compliment, Petra! Thank you!

Timmy's 5★ Review of Slaying Isidore's Dragons!

Jean-Isidore de Sauvéterre and Declan David de Quirke II are both sons of ambassadors, and have a lot going on in their lives. Isidore is dealing with an abusive home life and the loss of his mother, while Declan is dealing with the loss of his father and assassination attempts on his mother. They meet at school, and Declan begins protecting Isidore almost immediately. As soon as Declan learns of Isidore’s troubled home life, he takes action. Isidore moves into Declan’s home and starts to recover. However, that’s not the end for them. There are Isidore’s four brothers and father to deal with, problems at school, the assassination attempts, and more! This book is one you won’t want to put down. When the action begins, it’s fast-paced and thrilling and there are mysteries to unravel. Through it all, you get to watch Declan and Isidore’s feelings evolve into a great love.

Cody’s books are the only ones that I know of on the market that are contemporary high-action. He isn’t kidding when he says Slaying Isidore’s Dragons is a teen Bourne Identity. Isidore is raw and terrified and has nothing to hold onto except Declan and his mother, Sorcha. They not only do everything in their power to protect him, they go above and beyond. While this is a story of fiction, it does represent a lot of what it takes to keep a kid safe after leaving an abusive environment, especially if the parents of the abused kid are wealthy and powerful. This isn’t only a story of hope, but a story about the extreme measures it can take to remove a kid from an abusive environment and protect him from his abusers trying to get him back—which happens in real life. Cody writes it in such a way that it isn’t based in fear, but in triumph. It’s a totally feel-good book.

I have read two books, one novella, and a free serial story by Cody Kennedy. I am in awe of his ability to tell a story in any form, and I was not disappointed when I read Slaying Isidore’s Dragons. It takes great talent to be able to tell a story based in negative events and situations in such a way that it gives hope to the reader. Cody has done that in every book I’ve read of his, but especially in Slaying Isidore’s Dragons. Coming from a troubled home myself, I really appreciate how Cody can tell stories of abused kids and still leave me feeling hope and triumph after reading it. This book, and others like it, not only help abused kids, it gives us the strength to survive and continue on. I don’t say that because Cody is a close friend, for I have said this about authors I don’t know, but hope is a very magical thing to a kid who has none. I have all these emotions that would explain it better, but it’s so hard to get it out in words.

Happiness is a hard thing for abused kids to see in their futures. It’s like that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We want it to be real, but can’t seem to actually find it. Books like Cody’s give us hope for our futures, and he does it by telling his stories without dwelling on all the negatives in our lives. It’s not that he skims over the negative aspects, because those are all there. But he shows how we can still have the elusive happiness by trusting people who are trustworthy and want to help us. So I would like to thank Cody for the time and effort he puts into his books for the kids who need it the most.

Cody has a true skill for pulling the reader into his stories. This is another way his books and others like it will save lives. They are a safe place. A place we can hide, even if only for a few hours, and imagine a world better than the one we live in. Slaying Isidore’s Dragons is so much more than a book about an abused boy. It’s an adventure.

After reading the final copy, I fell even more in love with Slaying Isidore’s Dragons. There is MUCH more of Isidore in the story now, and that made an excellent book a PERFECT book. I can now relate to Isidore and the story even more than before. It also gives the reader a little more insight into the mind of an abused kid. This is important because it will help readers understand a small part of the heartbreaking confusion that makes up our daily thoughts. I believe everyone has had hard times, but it almost seems harder to start over than it does to remain in an abusive home. It’s hard to find the real you under everything you were forced to be. It’s harder still to explain that to someone who never lived that type of hell. This book will give you some idea of how hard the “new life” can really be.

I give this book 5 marbles and would give it more if I could. It is a must read (as soon as it comes out. You can preorder it now.) Be sure to buy your own copy rather than borrowing someone else’s because you will want to read it more than once. ~Timmy

A special note to the author:
I know your life hasn’t been easy, but the work you do to help save others, either through real life or your writing, is what makes you a true superhero. I can’t tell you the number of kids you will save, but I can say for sure, you have saved at least one. Here's a poem I wrote for you.

Timmy's Review of Safe by C. Kennedy

Safe was a good read, but sad and hard to read at times. Safe takes us on a journey of two friends who become lovers. They support and help each other to become the men they are. One reason I don’t like short stories is because I don’t feel I get enough time to get to know the characters and their stories. However, I do feel that Cody did a great job of going through their relationship by giving us glimpses of the past. The little pieces of their history together really make them and their story feel so much more real for me.

I felt like I could relate in some ways to Nico, though our situations were very different. He had such a hard life, and needed badly to be protected. Caleb wanted to be that protector even before he was old enough to really know what that meant. Caleb was a great boyfriend. So very caring, sweet, and most of all, protective.

I want more! I would really love to know what became of these two, and how their story might end. I hope to one day get to read more about them. Until then I will leave you with a few words about the part of the book that I was disappointed in. This is not the story, writing, or author, but is a sore subject that I feel the need to address when I’m given the opportunity to.

I was extremely frustrated by the fact that Caleb's dad did nothing to help Nico when he Caleb first went to him. Sadly, that is all too common. If nothing else, It’s my hope that this book will open some eyes to the abuse that goes on that most are too afraid to get involved with. Don’t make excuses of why you shouldn’t or can’t help. Get in there and protect these kids who are beaten. Sometimes it’s as simple as asking the right questions and taking the appropriate actions. I know Cody has links on his blog for kids that need help, but this link is for the people who don’t know how to help. ~Timmy

About Safe
Caleb had one mission in life.
To keep his boyfriend safe.

They met at ten, kissed at twelve, and were madly in love by eighteen. Caleb Deering is the captain of the swim team and the hottest senior in school. He comes from a loving home with a kind father and a caring, but strict, mother who is battling breast cancer. Nico Caro is small and beautiful, and has a father who rules with an iron fist—literally. One morning Caleb forgets himself, and he pecks Nico on the lips at school. A teacher sees them and tattles to the Headmaster. The accidental outing at school might be the least of their problems, because the ball set in motion by the school’s calls to their parents could get Nico killed. In the face of that very real danger, Caleb knows he has only one mission in life: to keep Nico safe.

Timmy's Review of Omorphi by C. Kennedy

Many people will read this story and think it’s just a story, made up by an author who writes fiction. But there are some of us who will understand that bad stuff like this happens to kids. It’s not only in faraway countries, it’s here, wherever you are it’s there and real! I think the best thing Cody did in this book was not to make it Christy’s story but made it Michael’s story. No good person would want to know what goes on in the head of a person who lived the way Christy did. But Michael’s story wasn’t about all the bad stuff that happened to Christy. It was about helping Christy live with all the bad stuff that happened to him. My one thought when reading this book was if anything in it is fiction, I hope it's not Michael. This book gave me a goal. I will find a Michael! It's very important to know that this is real! People like me have lived this and I will always live with it, but with help, I hope to not live it. This book gives me hope that I will get better and that I can be ok. I want to say thank you to Cody for writing this, for showing people how hard life can be for people like Christy and me. I think everyone should read this book even if you don’t like gay people. You should read this to understand what kids go through all the time, but people try to hide it. ~Timmy

High school senior Michael Sattler leads a charmed life. He’s a star athlete, has great friends, and parents who love him just the way he is. What’s missing from his life is a boyfriend. That’s a problem because he’s out only to his parents and best friend. When Michael accidentally bumps into Christy Castle at school, his life changes in ways he never imagined. Christy is Michael’s dream guy: smart, pretty, and sexy. But nothing could have prepared Michael for what being Christy's boyfriend would entail.

Christy needs to heal after years of abuse and knows he needs help to do it. After the death of his notorious father, he leaves his native Greece and settles in upstate New York. Alone, afraid, and left without a voice, Christy hides the myriad scars of his abuse. He desperately wants to be loved and when he meets Michael, he dares to hope that day has arrived. When one of Michael’s team-mates becomes an enemy and an abuser from Christy’s past seeks to return him to a life of slavery, only Michael and Christy's combined strength and unwavering determination can save them from the violence that threatens to destroy their future together.
