Timmy's Review of Rainbow Briefs by Kira Harp

This is a hard review to write up because Rainbow Briefs is an anthology and many of the stories were truly SHORT and I don’t like to give away spoilers.

I would like to say a few things to the author, then I will give a very "brief" review of each story. It’s rare for me to find an author who can hook me in just a few sentences. You, Ms. Harp, were able to do that 15 times! I was hooked in every single story in no more than 3 sentences. This tells me you are a great author with a rare talent.

Each story stayed good until the end. However, I felt cheated at the end of most of the stories. It felt to me that they were the first chapters of novels instead of a whole story. Some of the stories felt finished, but the majority of the stories felt like they needed more of an ending. Because of that, I gave this anthology only 3 Marbles. But please don’t let that stop you from reading them because they are truly awesome works. ~Timmy

Here is a list of my thoughts for each short story:

Future, Imperfect - This was sweet and short. I hope to hear how it turns out for them.

Oblivious - This story was good but had a personal trigger in it (blindfolds). Luckily, I handled it, so the visceral reaction didn't last.

Tomorrow - Very short with no ending.

Designing Sam - My favorite of all the stories. Very emotional and very real. Please consider writing Sam’s story in more length.

Working - Cute short, needs more in the ending.

Coming Back- I really loved how this started, but it needs more ending. Consider making it a novella?

Behind Door Number Two - Loved this one. I felt it was a full story. One of my favorite lesbian stories ever.

Blind Sights - The story was good, but I think having two stories in a row with gay siblings was a bit much. It’s not that common.

My Own Kind - I really liked this one. I want more please.

Making Connections - The second best story in this anthology. I love how the perspective was from someone with Down Syndrome. It gives something special to the story, and was a great way for people to get some understanding of the way life can be for a child with Down Syndrome. Also Chris was so sweet and understanding.

In An Orange Glow - Very action-packed. Good, but could have been longer.

Change of Plans - LOL When reading books I leave a note at the end of each, it helps me remember my final feeling of the overall story. My note on this one says, “OMG, that is so mean to leave it there!” I think it’s safe to say I want more. :D

In Unexpected Places - My third favorite. I loved how the characters interacted with each other. I would have loved to read more, but I felt it was ended well.

Variations - Another sweet story, however I would like to see this expanded as well.

Doubts and Darkness - This was a good story, but I really wish there was an ending.

  1. I will definitely check this out, Timmy. Then we can all bombard Kira with a chorus of "MORE, MORE, MORE". Believe it or not, I think it's a pretty darn good compliment to tell authors that you want to read more of their characters' stories. The TBR stack grows. Great review.

    1. She said maybe more on Sam, but the other's were a one time thing.

    1. Thanks sandy. I always try to be honest. If I weren't my reviews wouldn't mean anything.

  3. I am torn on this one. While I enjoy shorts when I don't have much time, I hate to feel like I am missing the ending. But this is free so I am going to give them a try soon. Thanks Timmy <3
