Timmy's Review of Catch My Breath by M.J. O'Shea

Okay this is an OMG! kinda book! Before I start my review, I want to write something to the author. She may never see this review, but on the off chance she does, I want her to know this. If I hadn’t read the About The Author in the back of the book, I would have sworn you were a 19 year old gay boy band member! I, of course, don’t mean that in a bad way, but you were able to really get the thoughts and emotions of Danny and Elliot perfectly. I’m really looking forward to reading more of your books.

This book was great for so many reasons I don’t know if I can list them all without retelling the story, but I will sure try. As soon as I can figure out where to start. ;) This could have very easily been a One Direction knock off, and that was exactly what I was expecting. I was so happy that it wasn’t. Some of the aspects seem to match with 1D, but this book and this boy band didn’t need someone else’s story, it was fantastic on its own.

For half the book I felt like a fangirl, wanting to cheer Danny and Elliot on! For the other half I wanted to hurt someone. I mean, dang, they had the best start and the hardest time keeping their love intact. I fell in love with all five of the boys. Tate, Webb, Reese, Danny, and Elliot made such a great team. The book was just drenched in the love they all shared. Brothers, family, and partners. I would love to think that a real band worked like that. They teased, played and most of all they supported each other.

This book had OMG! emotions. I laughed, cried, and even threw my Kindle once. It was the best and worst rollercoaster ever. They had so many setbacks and worked so hard to be together. I wanted so bad to crawl in the book and hug Elliot and Danny. They grew up in the space of less than 2 years, and I feel like I just witnessed one of the greatest love stories ever told.

This book contains one sex scene that may be considered more New Adult than Young Adult and may be considered inappropriate for some youth under sixteen. But make no mistake, this book is all about the feels and emos. M.J. did a great job writing them. It isn't about sex. It is about LOVE. You hit the perfect YA book whether it was intended to be YA or not!

I definitely recommend this book, however, be warned! This is not a sweet, easy love story. It has a lot of very real emotion in it. Be ready to really go to a carnival and ride the biggest emotional roller coaster there. This book will take you on a journey that will make your tummy flip and makes you FEEL so much. #TeamDelly ~Timmy

About Catch My Breath

Danny Bright was born to entertain. He just needs his big break. So when he hears that Blue Horizon Records is holding auditions looking for the next big thing, Danny jumps at the chance. It doesn’t turn out exactly as he imagined, though. Instead of getting solo contracts, Danny and four other guys are put into a boy band.

Innocent, idealistic Elliot Price thinks he’s headed for college. An impulsive decision to sing in the local talent search changes all that. A bigwig producer happens to see him, hands him a business card, and turns Elliot’s life upside down.

Elliot and Danny are close from the beginning. They love all the guys, but it’s different with each other. Soon their friendship turns into feelings more intense than either of them can ignore. The other three boys only want Danny and Elliot to be happy, but when their management team and record label discover two of their biggest tween heartthrobs are in a relationship, they’re less than pleased. Danny and Elliot find themselves in the middle of a circle of lies and cover-ups, all with one bottom line—money. They have to stay strong and stick together if they don’t want to lose themselves… and each other.

  5. Dang, Timmy, my "I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK NOW! LIST" just keeps getting longer. This one has been on my TBR stack forever and it sounds like I need to pull it up towards the top of the stack... like NOW!! I love MJ O'Shea's books and I love books centered around the music industry. MJ just has a way of wringing your heart out before she smooths it and tucks it neatly back into your chest, doesn't she? Thanks for the great review. Now I can't wait to read the book.
